We are pleased to offer complete dentures at our office as an effective method to restore your oral function following significant tooth loss. To ensure your dentures serve you as well as possible, we offer tips to help maintain their structure and grip.

The original design of your dentures enable them to remain secured to your existing gum structure for a long time. Over the years, your underlying bone structure below the teeth can begin to change, a condition known as oral atrophy that can result in the dentures becoming loose when worn in your mouth.

You can work to avoid the effect of oral atrophy now by ensuring that you apply sufficient denture adhesive when placing your dentures in your mouth each morning. Denture adhesive helps to keep the appliance securely in place and prevent any food particles from accumulating around the base of the denture. You may find it helpful to carry denture adhesive with you during the day so that you can reapply if needed.

When taking out your dentures for the night, remember to clean away the lingering adhesive and brush the dentures before placing them in a soak overnight. Caring for the dentures ensures they have a clean surface for another application of denture adhesive the following morning.

Before choosing a denture adhesive, we invite you to make sure it has the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance, which is a small logo on the product’s package that testifies to it being researched and tested to meet your needs.
