Are your gums inflamed (swollen)? If so, it’s best to do all you can to help them. Unfortunately, there are many causes of inflamed gums, but because gum disease is one of those causes (gum disease is a dangerous dental issue), it’s best to schedule an appointment with our dentist, Dr. Chadwick Webster, just to be safe. Until your appointment, there are a few things you can do to reduce the swelling and relieve the pain.

First, brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and be gentle as you scrub near the gums. Second, floss your teeth at least once a day. As you floss, be careful not to force the dental floss into place. Forcing the floss can harm the gums. Flossing can help you remove the harmful substances that are irritating your gums. Third, rinse your mouth with antibacterial mouthwash once a day. Rinsing can complete the cleaning job, kill the bacteria in your mouth, and even freshen your breath.
